Become a Mentor Today

Here is yet another individual personal stories by 23 girls who are so passionate about education but with less opportunity.These are promising rural Ugandans seeking one -on-one mentor-ship in 2013.

In their own words:

Adikini Tekula
I am 16 years old. My father died of HIV, my mother is living with HIV. I have 4 siblings. There is no one we can look at for support. I would like to go to school but there is just no one to help me. My sister got married last year at 16 because she lost hope. I am hopeful that you would help me make my future brighter so that I can support my family and those suffering around me. I would like to become a teacher so that I can guide the younger generation.

Aguga Arigina
I am 13 years old, I have 7 siblings. My father has another wife, he does not support us. My mother digs people’s gardens to raise money for our education and even feeding. There is no hope that I will continue with education without your support. I want to bring another generation, a better generation in my family and community. If I am educated, I can do it. I would like the rural areas to have literate people to promote development. I want to become a Magistrate in order to promote justice.

Akoth Yakoba
I am 14 years old. My father died of HIV. My mother divorced and left us with our grandmother who takes care of us. My grandmother is 72 years old. She cannot afford educating me and my 4 siblings. Please support me so that I can be able to support the rest. I would like to become a doctor.

Apero Anna Farida
I am 16 years old, both my parents died. I live with my grandmother who is 58years old. We dig our small garden to produce food and we also dig for other people to raise money for my education. Life is very hard for me and my brother. Please help educate me so that I can have a better future and help others in need.

Nyadoi Lillian
I am 18 years old. My parents cut firewood and give to the school that I go to, it works as my school fees. There are no longer more trees to cut; we do not have much land to grow crops for sale. If you support me, I will work very hard for a better future. I admire doctors; I would like to become one so that I can treat the sick.

Nyadoi Eunice
I am 16 years old. My father who was supporting my education died of an accident last year. Since then my mother has been struggling to educate me and my other siblings. We dig people’s gardens to raise money that we use for everything for everyone. It is not enough. I don’t think I will have a better future without your support. Education is the only thing that can transform my life, my family and my community. I would like to become a nurse so that I can save people’s lives. With my salary I will educate my siblings and other needy girls in my community.

Nyawere Immaculate
I am 18 years old. My mother died in 2005. It feels so lonely not to have a mother. My father is a poor peasant farmer. He sells food stuffs for survival; he has struggled to educate me. Without your support I am not likely to finish the journey of education. When I look back, I have a lot of responsibilities that only through education, I can be able to sort them. I want to become a doctor.

Nyachwo Catherine
I am 18 years old. I have sat home for the past one year due to lack of school fees. I tried digging people’s gardens but the money I raise cannot feed us as well as pay my school fees. We are 4 girls in our family, our parents both died of HIV. So often the community has threatened to take our land because we are girls. I would like to study and become a lawyer so that I can defend a girl child.

Abbo Zerida
I am 14 years old. My father who was supportive to our education is now ill. He cannot even walk. My mother is a peasant farmer who struggles a lot to earn a living for us. She will not be able to raise my secondary school fees. Please help and educate me. When I grow up, I want to give back to the community. I would like to become a social worker.

Akello Harriet
I am 16 years old. My mother died when I was still young. I have lived with my father and grandmother. My father fries soybeans and sells in the markets; he gets very little money from it for both feeding us and education. Please support my education so that I can uplift my family and community. I would like to become a doctor.

Auma Maureen
I am 15 years old. Both my parents are HIV positive, I have 6 siblings and I am the second born, our first born got married. I would like to transform my family and my community, please help me by educating me, I would like to become a teacher so that I can teach the young generation. [Maureen is 2012 mentee who needs a new mentor. Her current mentor is not able to continue]

Logose Gracious
I am 14 years old. Both my parents are HIV positive. I have 6 siblings. My father who used to support my education is now ill. Please support my education to that I can have a brighter future for myself, my family and my country. I would like to become a doctor. Many people are dying in villages because there are very few doctors in the country.

Achieng Juliet
I am 16 years old. I lost both my parents, I am a total orphan. It is my uncle who struggled to educate me but he has said that he is not able to continue and that I should get married. I do not want to get married. I want to become a Doctor. I also want to help poor people like me.

Woor Victoria
I am 14 years old. My parents are HIV positive. They forced my sister to get married when she was 15 because there was no money to continue with school. I think I am next to get married. Please help me make a better future. I would like to become an engineer.[Vitoria is 2012 mentee who needs a new mentor. Her current mentor is not able to continue]

Nyaketcho Lillian
I am 17 years. My father abandoned us 7 children for another woman; my mother struggles a lot to feed us and educate us. Without your support my education is not possible. Illiterate people do not have knowledge about the country but the literate can achieve big things. I would like to become a doctor.

Nyamwenge Joyce
I am 16 years old. Both my parents are HIV positive. I have 5 siblings and we are very poor. My family cannot educate me any further. Being the first born, they want me to get married. I do not want to get married, I want to study. I would like to become a lawyer so that I defend those who are mistreated, especially the girls and women.

Anyango Dolotia
I am 14 years. I am the first born of 6. I am finishing primary education and my parents have been struggling with buying for me books and pens. I do not think they will manage taking me further with education. I beg for your support so that I can lift my family in future. I feel very bad when I go to the hospital and find sick people not attended to. I would like to become a nurse.

Achari Christine.
I am 21.My parents are aged and not educated; they cannot afford my school fees. In order to make school fees, and add something on the little my parents contribute as my father sells silver fish, I went to work as a house keeper but my male boss wanted to have sex with me so I ran away because I did not want to add another trouble. I love God. I want to become inspector of Police. Through this I will be able to fight away early marriages which will be happening in the lives of the young girls. I promise to work so hard and think better about my future if you choose to mentor and sponsor me. [Christine is 2012 mentee who needs a new mentor. Her current mentor is not able to continue]

Abbo Scovia
I am 13 years old. My parents are very poor and HIV positive. I have 9 siblings. There is no better future for me and my family without education. Please educate me so I can lead the way in my family and community. I would like to become a Nurse. There are lots of illnesses in rural areas so I would like to be among those who save lives.

Akumu Yerusa Innocent
I am 13 years old. This world takes us far to poverty or better life. This is not a good world I live in. I can choose better life but how do I get there? Only through education. I am in need of your help to achieve this. My parents are poor and old, my sisters have got married, my brothers have married, but for me I want to study.

Nyachwo Grace
I am 13 years old. I have 4 siblings, my parents are very poor and sickly. We depend on digging for people to raise money for feeding at home and for education. Secondary education is expensive and my parents cannot afford. If you support my education you will make my dream of becoming a teacher come true.

Awino Elizabeth
I am 16 years old. I have 9 siblings; most of them have got married, and married because there is no money for higher education. I am in the level where I can also be forced to get married because there is no money. I would like to become a lawyer in future. Please help me fulfill my dream.

Athieno Jackline
I am 14 years old. I lost my mother when I was 10, since then life has been very hard for me. My father married another woman. He does not care about my education, my step mother wants me to get married. I feel bad because my education is in a dark corner. I would like to become an engineer.
